Boston Area Curbside Compost Collection
Boston currently has a Compost Pilot Program called Project Oscar. There are five community compost drop off locations throughout the city for Boston residents at these locations:
- East Boston, on the Lewis Mall 222 Sumner St across from Maverick Station MBTA stop
- North End, in the Nazzaro Center parking lot on 30 North Bennet Street
- Brighton, at Faneuil Gardens Apartments 65 Faneuil Street in the west parking lot across from McKinney Playground
- Jamaica Plain, in the parking lot of the Curtis Hall Community Center at 20 South Street
- City Hall Plaza, across from the Wax Museum
The program has a specific list of acceptable compostable material, slightly different then ours. Please see their website for more information.
Curbside Pick Up
If these locations are not convenient for you or you are interested in having compost picked up at your residence we are currently compiling a list of people interested in compost pickups. When we have around 20 people on the list for your neighborhood we will start a route at $3.80 a week for pickups.
Once we have a route started we offer a 40% reduction in the cost of service after a few hundred people enroll in pickups or preregister for the price reduction (no financial commitment). The more interest, the faster we can begin service and the cheaper it becomes, so spread the word to get your neighborhood composting!
Please specify your neighborhood, West Roxbury, South End, Brighton, etc. in the town section of the wait list form to be notified by email when we start a route in your area.
Add Name To Wait List
We drop off your new curbside bin and bags! When you need more bags, order online and we drop them off the next week. The 13 gallon animal proof curbside bin comes with wheels and a locking lid for $24, half the price of retail. Your food waste must be contained within a compostable bag. This keeps your bin clean and ensures all material is emptied. A paper grocery bag works well or you can purchase compostable bag liners for your curbside bin or kitchen counter top container through our web store.
WHAT TO COMPOST:
You can compost a lot more than your backyard pile… Meat, Dairy, Napkins, Paper Towels, Pizza Boxes. We do not accept yard waste, grass clippings, or plastic. Click on the image to enlarge or here for a detailed print version of what’s compostable.
TEXTILES PICK UP:
The EPA estimates that 90% of textiles get thrown in the trash. We will collect your used clothing or textiles for free. That includes all clothes, shoes, sheets, towels, and curtains. Please consider donating your best clothes first to a local thrift store. All clean textiles that would otherwise be thrown in the trash, we will gladly recycle.
Start at $99.99 for 6 months (only $3.80/week). When a few households are enrolled or preregistered, the price will be reduced 40% to $59.99 for 6 months (only $2.31/week) for all. Add your name to our wait list to be notified when we begin compost collection in your neighborhood.
