The process starts with you separating and disposing your compostable waste. Black Earth Compost accepts all compostable material, including meat, dairy, and paper scraps.
Black Earth Compost comes to your business or residence and picks up your food scraps and compostable waste.
Your food scraps and compostable material are delivered to a local farm, our compost site, or town compost site where it is unloaded into a compost pile. Green certified compostable bags are used to line toters and compost bins.
In the compost pile, heat, water, and naturally occurring microscopic bacteria, fungi, mites, worms and other insects and microbes work together in a complex web to break down the organic material.
Our compost is arranged in wind rows and turned regularly with a tractor to facilitate break down of material.
The compost pile is tended until all the organic material has broken down. The end product is black gold, an extremely fertile compost that can be added to soil to balance pH, release nutrients, and retain moisture.
Black Earth Compost is sold in bags at local garden centers or is available for delivery by the yard to your backyard farm or garden.
The process comes full circle, when Black Earth Compost is used to grow flowers and vegetables to nourish our community.
